It was mid March, I've been invited to Dusseldorf to attend jizake tasting dinner.
This sake event was organized by one of my supplier JFC. 5 people has been invited from each city such as London, Paris, Amsterdam and Dusseldorf... and I was so honored to attend this dinner event.
Dusseldorf has a big Japanese community for over 500 years.
So there is many Japanese shops and restaurant everywhere. And seemed really nice place to live.
After we checked in the hotel and refresh ourselves, we walked to the restaurant where we were having the sake event and dinner.
Probably for about 7 minutes away by foot from our hotel, we arrived at Nagaya.
Nagaya is owned by two Japanese people Mr and Mrs Nagaya.
Surprisingly they closed the restaurant for this sake event!! wow... Thank you very much!
When we entered the restaurant there were a few familiar faces. Very excited!!
We were divided in 5 tables. I was sitting with English speakers from Dubai and London.
And each table was having one sake producer.
I was so honered to dine with Mr Nakashima from Nakashima brewery at our table.
Our dinner started with Yuzu sake from Nakashima brewery....
We had about 9 courses and at least 2 dishes in each course. Every single dishes were just amazing. Presentation, ideas, color, texture and taste.... they fulfilled our taste bud.
And the dinner was a really great opportunity to discover some good sake and food matching for me.
３月の中旬、ドイツのドュッセルドルフに、地酒のテイスティングディナーに招待いただきました。
こちらの珍しい企画は、ロンドンでいつもお世話になっている、日本食品を扱うJFCさんより。ロンドン、パリ、アムステルダム、ドュッセルドルフ…他各国から５人ずつの日本食、又は日本酒関係者が招待されたのです。そこに、本当に光栄な事に、私もご招待いただき、参加しました。
ドュッセルドルフは、ヨーロッパでも一番大きい日本人のコミュニティーがあるそうです。
確かに、市内には日本食品を扱う店や、レストラン等が至る所に。それに、ドュッセルドルフってなんだか住みやすそう!
ホテルに到着しチェックインを済ませ、各自部屋で一息ついた後は、早速歩いてイベント会場のレストランへ。７分程で、Nagayaさんへ到着しました。
こちらのNagayaを経営、そして運営されるのがナガヤご夫婦。今日のイベントの為に、レストランは貸し切りにしてくださったそうです。

レストランに入ると、お馴染みの顔ぶれもチラホラ。とても楽しみです。
店内は５つのセクションに分かれ、私はドバイや、ロンドン等の英語圏のチームに。そしてテーブルごとに今回ご参加いただいた、蔵元さんがお一人ずつ同席しました。
私は、小左衛門の中島さんとご一緒させて頂きました。緊張…。
そして、夕食がスタート。
始めに中島さんのゆずのお酒からスタート。
食事は９コース程で、各コース最低でも２品のお料理が楽しめました。
一つ一つのお料理が本当に素晴らしく、そのお料理に皆舌鼓。そして、私自身も色々な新しい発見があったりと、充実した楽しい夕食となりました。

After the dinner, we had time to taste 10 types of sake that were specially selected for us tonight.
I wish I could stay there more and talk with the producers, but it was time to go... So big big thanks to chef Nagaya and his team, also JFC!!! Thank you!
夕食の後は、10種類の”サンプル酒”と称して、各蔵に特別に用意して頂いたお酒を頂きました。
もっと長く居る事が出来たら良かったけれども、皆レストランを後にしました。

Next day, Mr Horino and Mr Kusuhara from JFC London took us to the city of Kern.
We've visited this mega cathedral. It was just magnificent.
翌日は、ロンドンの堀野さんが、ケルンに連れて行ってくれました。
この大聖堂にも足を運びましたが、本当に巨大。素晴らしかったです。
Then of course you have to try this. German beer.
The staffs are wearing stylish uniforms and carrying the beer with unique tray.
そしてドイツに来たのであれば、勿論欠かせないのがビール。
なんだか素敵な制服で機敏に動くスタッフが手にするのは、ユニークなトレー。あれでビールを運びます。

And 3 different types of sausage, grilled/ boiled pork for 6 people has arrived in front of us. Believe me, it doesn't looks for 6 people. Mr Horino told us most of the German people have a big lunch and very small dinner. I can imagine, I wouldn't eat dinner after this... Would you??
そして、場所を移してまたビール。
そしてお昼時だったのもあり、こちらで夕食のソーセージ３種、茹でたものとローストされたポークを頂きました。６人分と言いますが、凄い量…。
堀野さんがおっしゃるには、ドイツ人はお昼はガッツリ、そして夜はもの凄く小食なんだそう。確かに、これを昼に食べたら夜はさすがに無理でしょう。
Served with Sauerkraut. It was more sour than I've tasted before in London.
But while you eating sausages and pork, you'll crave for this sourness. And all of us felt it was like Christmas.
This was really tasty. We've tried to concentrated and finish our plate. But we couldn't finish.
一緒に来たのはサワークラウト。以前ロンドンで食べた物よりかなり酸味が利いていました。ただ、このソーセージやらポークやらを食べると、もの凄くこのサワークラウトの酸味が欲しくなるのです。
なんだかクリスマスみたいでした。
とても美味しく、皆この大皿を平らげる事に集中。でも、この量にはさすがにお手上げでした。
We were so full. I couldn't move for a while...
We share 2 bottles of underberg between 6. It was an amazing trip.
I had really great experiences in this trip.
I've meet wonderful people and talk with them about what is happening in their country...

お腹がものっすごくいっぱいになった私達はしばし動けず…。
underbergという、薬草やら何やらの入ったアルコールが40度ある食後酒の小瓶２本をお願いし、６人でちびりちびりと分けました。
今回の旅では、本当に貴重な体験をする事が出来ました。
素敵な方々との出会いもあり、皆といろいろ各地の現状を話す良い機会にもなりました。
本当にこんな素敵な機会を与えてくださったJFCさんに、感謝です。
