satomi's fridge: Nara/ Kyoto trip

We visited Yucho sake brewery, in Nara prefecture.
Yoshi showed us around the brewery. Yoshi and I met the first time in London in 2009. He was staying in London during the summer to learn English. We went to the pub a few times and visited an English wine producer together. It was fun. He is a really nice guy. He is younger than me but I'm always inspired and impressed with him so much.

I could see tanks for Kaze no Mori brand sake.
The tank was much smaller than I expected... We are buying this sake a lot for the restaurant and I was getting worry that we might be buying everything?!
I've met some staffs who were cleaning in the brewery, they are very young, and I found there was a very good energy and more potential in the future.
今回は、奈良県にある油長酒造を見学しました。
山本さんが、案内してくださいました。
山本さんとは昨年2009年に、ロンドンへ語学留学に来ていた時に初めてお会いしました。
何度かパブに一緒に行ったり、イギリスのワインメーカーを見学に行ったり、良い思い出です。山本さんは私よりもいくつか若いのですが、本当に知識の深さと、日本酒にかける思いはただ者ではありません。本当に素晴らしい方で、何度感心させられたか、彼のような人が日本酒に携わっていると思うと、日本酒業界、将来はそう悪くないんじゃないかと思わされます。
風の森ブランドのタンクも見せて頂きました。
思っていたより小規模で、驚きましたが、同時に御社でも風の森シリーズを度々購入するので、全部うちで使ってしまっているんじゃないかと少し心配にもなりました。
蔵で、掃除をしていたスタッフにもお目にかかりました。とても若い方で、エネルギーがあり、素晴らしいと思いました。

Both Kyoto and Nara prefecture are surrounded by many mountains. So summer is really hot and winter is very cold.

京都も奈良も山に囲まれているので、やはり夏は暑く、冬は寒いそうです。

We could seen some fridges and several floors, inside out. We tasted 2 different Kaze no mori that made from Omachi rice and Yamadanishiki rice. I liked Omachi, and few other peoples thought the same. It was so juicy and refreshing and.... just amazing.
冷蔵庫も幾つか見せて頂けました。それから、それぞれの階も詳しく説明して頂いて、先代の知恵が良く現れていて、感心しました。
見学の後は、風の森シリーズの2種、雄町と山田錦をテイスティングしました。
どちらもとても美味しかったですが、個人的には雄町が好みでした。他の何人かも、同意でした。

For lunch, we had Kakino-ha zushi, which is a local sushi wrapped with persimmon leaf.
お昼には、地元で有名な柿の葉寿司を頂きました。

After visiting the brewery, we headed back to Kyoto, and walked around...
This is cream soda! It is melon soda topped with vanilla ice cream. I haven't had this since I was a kid. I thought it is a well known drink, but I guess not.
奈良から京都へと戻ってきた後は、また少しぶらぶらと街を歩きました。
クリームソーダは、万国共通だと思っていたんですが、そういえば、今までロンドンでは観た事なかった事に今更気がつきました。

Leaves were just started to change colors...
今年の夏は暑かったせいで、紅葉は例年よりも遅かったのですが、それでもちらほらと色づいた紅葉が見られました。

Thom and I found a really good restaurant towards the end of the Ponto-cho, for our last meal in kyoto.
We had great meal and waitress who served us were super sweet...
Our dinner was fully satisfing.
夕食には、先斗町のかなり奥にある、レストランへ。たまたま見つけたのですが、どの料理もとても美味しく、店内もきれいで、それにウェイトレスの方がとても親切な方で、料理もサービスも大満足でした。
