little escape

I love summer in England.
Fresh grass is so shiny, everybody is smiling and the whole town seems to just dazzle...
I never like the summer back home but since I moved to England summer is the one of my favorite season.

It was another hot summer day.
Thom and I had a little escape outside London.
We took a car and drove about 45 minutes, and reached such a little and cute village called Marlow. I could not believe this quiet village exists less than 1 hour drive from the center....
We left home early and we didn't have a breakfast, so we walked around to look for some where to eat... There are a few restaurants by the river which had terrace seat but we stopped at the local pub which also had terrace seat.
We felt like something light and fresh in such a hot sunny day, so Thom ordered steak salad and I had goats cheese salad. Both were really good.
私はイギリスの夏が好きです。
芝の輝く緑色、誰もが笑顔で、そして街全体がとてもつもなく眩しく見えるのです。
日本に居る時は大嫌いだった夏、イギリスに移って以来、夏は一番好きな季節です。

先日、とても天気が良く夏のような日差しの日、トーマスと私はロンドンの郊外へ出かけました。
ロンドンから車で45分程、とても小さな町Marlowに到着しました。
こんなに都心から近い距離で、こんなに小さくてかわいい”田舎町”にお目にかかれるとは本当に驚きでした。
朝、朝食を摂る時間も惜しんで家を出たので、ここで軽くブランチでもと。
川沿いに何件かテラス席のあるレストランを見ましたが、テラス付きのパブを見つけたのでそちらへ。
トーマスはステーキサラダ、私はゴーツチーズのサラダを頂きました。


And after the brunch, we walked the town and had a look around...
ブランチの後は、また辺りを散策。

As I said it is such a little village and we visited the whole of the town within 2 hours..?
We still had time before check in the hotel.
Again, we took the car and drove outside of Marlow...
And found massive grape seeds flower field.
なにせとても小さい町なので、ゆっくり歩いても2時間程で 端から端へ辿り着いてしまいました。
チェックインまでにはまだかなり時間があったため、車でMarlowの郊外へ出ました。
そして沢山の花を咲かせた菜の花の畑が四方に見えました。

We had a nap in the field, smells so nice and it was just magnificent...
太陽のもと、沢山の菜の花に囲まれ、ちょっとお昼寝。

その後はホテルのチェックインをしました。今回お世話になったのはこちら。







We had an amazing dinner at the fat duck.
We've been taken care of so well. Great food, great wine and great staff.
We've enjoyed from beginning until we left the restaurant.
I was over the moon!
そして夕食はとても楽しみにしていたfat duckへ。
本当に皆さんに良くして頂いて、感謝感激の夕食でした。
素晴らしい料理、そしてワイン、極めつけは素晴らしいスタッフのお陰で、本当に素敵な夜になりました。
席についてからレストランを去るまで、大満足でした。

The next morning was another sunny day.
We wanted to have breakfast at the Michelin star restaurant in downstairs.
But since last night fest, we didn't have much appetite at all...
So we've just check out and went to Waddesdon manor.
Waddesdon Manor was build in 1889. Beautiful garden and building are protected by national trust.
次の朝はまたもこの晴天。
朝食を下の階にある、ミシュランスターのレストランで頂きたいと思っていたのですが、なんせ昨夜のごちそうがまだお腹に残っているのか、全く食欲がなく、今回は諦め。
ホテルをチェックアウトした後は、Waddesdon manorへ行きました。
Waddesdon manorは1889年に建てられたもので、現在はナショナルトラストで保護されています。

We had lunch at five arrows hotel.
お昼は敷地内にある、こちらのfive arrows hotelで頂きました。

IWC 2011

This time of the year has come. I'm so shocked how time past so fast recently. Which means I'm getting old?! or I'm enjoying my life?! Lets think I'm enjoying my life. And it is true. International Wine Challenge was held at the Barbican center on 18th April. I've been judging sake at this challenge for past few years. I found this challenge is getting better and better every year, both organizer and quality of sake. I had a really great time with the members of my group today. One of my favorite person Ema has great personalty and passion. It was great opportunity to talk about sake with her. I've tried 101 sake and found several great sake. I hope, I'm REALLY HOPING this sake could get medal... The result will be up on 17th May. I can not wait!!

さて、今年もこの時期がやって参りました。
最近、時の経過が以前にも増して恐ろしく早いと思うのは歳のせいでしょうか。それとも日々の生活が充実しているからでしょうか。

4月18日、IWC（インターナショナルワインチャレンジ）が今年もバービカンセンターで行われました。このイベントで日本酒の審査を初めてかれこれ数年、日本酒の品質、そして運営等年々良くなってきていると思います。

今年はチームの皆と、とても有意義な時間を過ごす事が出来ました。
私の憧れの一人でもあるEmaさんと初めて同じチームであった事もあり、いろいろ話す事ができました。
今年は101種類の日本酒を審査。中にはとても素晴らしい日本酒も何点かありました。
これらの日本酒は全てシニア審査委員によって改めて審査されますが、私達のチームで出た良い結果が反映される事をとても強く願っています。

結果は5月17日に発表される予定です。
今から待ちきれません!!

new cooking book

The Oscar award wining actress Gwyneth Paltrow released her cooking book.
Most of her recipe is thought by her father.
She is also talking about her family beside of 150 recipes in her book.
オスカー受賞暦のある女優として有名なグウィネスパルトローが、今月レシピ本を発売しました。ほとんどのレシピはグウィネスの父親から伝えられたそう。
本には、150あまりのレシピと、彼女の家族のエピソード等が綴られています。

first Yamadanishiki rice made in Yamanashi

Taikan sake brewery is in Yamanashi Prefecture. King of the sake rice "Yamadanishiki" is usually growned in Okayama, Hyogo, Fukuoka prefecture. Because of the weather Yamanashi prefecture is not suitable for growing Yamadanishiki rice, however in Autumn last year some of the local societies and university finally made a success to grow Yamadanishiki rice. Children from local school helped harvesting rice and after that, Taikan sake brewery made Junmai sake with first ever harvested local Yamadanishiki rice. Children drawn original labels and it was sold only in local shops in Yamanashi prefecture. It would be such a nice touch if there is more those cute sake labels....

山梨県の大冠酒造(山梨県南アルプス市、大沢慶暢（よしのぶ）社長）が、今まで気候上上手く作る事が出来なかった酒米、山田錦の栽培に成功し、純米酒を造りました。地元の園児達が稲刈りを体験し、出来た日本酒には子供達の手書きのラベル。
この純米酒、ご当地限定で２月から販売されました。
こんなかわいいラベルのお酒、もっとあっても良いような気がします。

saga donate sake to Miyagi

Not many people are still talking about Japan's earthquake anymore. But it isn't finish. There are still many people in needs of help and support from anywhere and in any way.

The people, especially staying far away from home, they are so exhausted both physically and mentally. Most of the shelters in Miyagi prefecture are strictly not allowing to drink alcohol to avoid some troubles by drunken.

Saga prefecture, southern part of Japan donate 81 bottles of local produced sake to Miyagi prefecture. Nobody can drink alcohol at shelter but town halls, park and temples are open for Hanami. Also one volunteer man from Saga prefecture heard some of the sufferer are wanting to enjoy sake under the cherry blossom trees sometimes, forget about pain and sadness. Sake was donated by Saga sake brewing association.
ロンドンでは、日本で起きた震災の話題が会話に出てくる事がほとんどなくなってきました。
震災は終わっている訳でもなく、いつでも、どんな方法であっても援助が必要な事には変わりありません。

本当に多くの人々が救済に関わり、被災している方々も含め、疲労は心身共に限界に近いものと日々言われています。
宮城県の避難所では、飲酒でのトラブルを防ぐため原則禁酒。
佐賀県の佐賀県酒造組合が、この度81本もの日本酒を宮城県へ義援酒として送りました。
避難所での飲酒は禁止されているものの、近くの公民館や寺がその義援酒を受け入れる事になりました。
たまには日本酒を飲んで疲れや悲しみを忘れる事が出来たら、一瞬でも笑顔が戻るように祈っています。

one sunny day

It was one of the most beautiful day in last week, I had an amazing afternoon with my close friends at the Ship. Thom run to the Ship around 12 to keep some space at the outside table for us, but even though the terrace was already getting really busy.
When most of my friends arrived at the ship, the restaurant was completely full, and charcoal grills were full on!! I haven't seen that crazy busy place for so long.
But it was really nice buzz and weather was just amazing.

Many people came and leave, around 7 the sun went down then we moved to another local restaurant Gazette.

We booked a table in very last minute but the manager save space in private dining space which I absolutely love this room.
先週でも最も天気の良かった日曜日、とっても素敵な午後を特別な友人達とthe Shipで過ごしました。トーマスが12時にテラスの席を確保する為に、私達よりも一足先にthe Shipへ向かったのですが、既に席は残すところ後僅か。なんとかして陽当たりの良い席をとっておいてくれました。招待した友人のほとんどが到着した頃には既にレストランは満員状態。
炭火焼のグリルも休みなしにフル回転。こんなに忙しいレストランは、天気のせいもあるけれどしばらく見た事が無かったので一同驚きでした。
でも、その忙しさが逆にいい雰囲気、そして天気の良さはもう申し分の無い程でした。

いろいろな友人がやって来るのと同時に、子供連れの友人達はお昼寝のため家路に着いたり、本当にオープンなお昼でした。
日が傾き始めた7時頃、今度はthe Shipから歩いて５分ぐらいにある、これもまた近所のレストラン、Gazettへアペリティフを飲みに移動しました。

本当に直前ぎりぎりにテーブルを予約したのですが、マネージャーさんの好意により、私のお気に入りの個室を用意してくれました!






We ate so much at the Ship, even though we started to eat cheese and cured meat... After that we had proper dinner. I had beef tartar, and most of the others had cote de boeuf.
あんなにたらふく食べたのに、アペリティフと一緒にチーズやら、ハムやら、皆手を休める事もせず本当に良く食べました。そしてその後は夕食。私はビーフタルタル、他の皆は2人前からオーダー可能な牛の骨付きステーキを頂きました。

It was so nice having many friends around and talked about many things.
It was feeling super good day.

いろいろな友人を招いてのランチ、本当に他愛ない事ばかり話して、とてもいい日になりました。

さて、コペンハーゲン二日目。
これぞコペンハーゲン、というものがだんだん分かってきた。

清潔感のある交通機関。

Posters everywhere.

勿論、デザイン家具。



Second day in Copenhagen, unfortunately weather was not great as yesterday.
But we had such a amazing sunny day yesterday so never mind.
We walked to the king's palace to see the changing of guards.
It was very simple, super organized and police were so calmed. Not like London!
今日は昨日と違ってあいにくどんよりした天候。
でも、昨日あれだけ天候に恵まれた事だし、ま、良いか。
ホテルからすぐのコペンハーゲンの宮殿へ、衛兵の交代式を見物に行きました。
なんだか、ロンドンで見るのと違ってとてもシンプル、そして警察もとーってもリラックス。いつもこんな感じなのかな。

Looks like a little crayon, small heart window is really cute.
なんだか色鉛筆みたいな衛兵のステーション。小さなハートの窓がかわいい。

We walked around the town again....
その後はまたぶらぶらお散歩。




We had lunch at this cafe.
We've only got a dutch menu in front of us, and nothing we could read. We spend good 15 minutes to order food. (kindly the couple next us told us what it was....)
ランチはこちらのカフェで頂きました。
英語のメニューが無く、とってもオーダーに困りました。恐らく15分は裕にかかって、やっとの事でオーダーできました。（隣に座っていたカップルが、最後は英語で説明してくれました…。）


I had a beer, I can not remember the name but I ordered a beer with little yellow chic was on the draft.
なんて言うビールを飲んだのか良く覚えていないけど、黄色いひよこがビールサーバーのラベルに描いてありました。美味しかったけど。

Another little heart...
あ、またハート発見。


It was really nice. I loved the place.
とてもいい感じのカフェでした。また一つお気に入りの場所に仲間入り。

It's time to have a break.
I had a tea and Thom had a tiramisu late.
だんだん夕暮れに近づくにつれ寒くなってきた上に、雨がぽちぽち。
ちょっと休憩でもするか、とまたカフェへ。
私はお茶、そしてトーマスはティラミスラテ。



After the dinner, we went to a jazz club.
It was jam session night and many young people (seems like school boy) were playing jazz. Definitely not like London.
It was really great place. We enjoyed the music so much.
夕食の後は、行きたかったジャズクラブへ。
ジャムセッションでしたが、あまりの若いプレーヤー達（キミタチお酒飲めるの?と思うくらい）に少々戸惑う二人。ロンドンでは明らかに見る事の無い光景でした。
でも、音楽も雰囲気も抜群。とっても楽しめた夜でした。


On the way to hotel we got this classic designed chocolate from seven eleven....
帰り道、ふらっと寄ったセブンイレブンでこんなレトロなパッケージのチョコレートを発見。
